· Clearly state central idea of concentration (500 characters)
a. One of the most frustrating about the fashion industry is the price that a buyer must pay for interesting clothing. After I watched Project Runway ‘s Dollar Store challenge, I wanted to make affordable looks. In my concentration, I am “dressing for less,” by making every outfit for under $10. I worked in several patterns and textures from the materials, but not have them overwhelm the looks. The look becomes less about the material and more about the look as the concentration progresses.

· Explain how work demonstrates intent and exploration of idea (1350)
a. The first piece, the Dum Dum dress, is a literal view of the material with sweetness in the sweetheart neckline. Although the wrapper is a busy pattern, making them flat and matched up does not overwhelm the overall piece. This piece cost nothing to be made because the wrappers were used as packing in a recent shipment of glazes for my school. The materials for the next piece, the newspaper dress and clutch, cost $5.67. A newspaper is full of conflicting patterns with the different columns and photographs. This dress dulls these patterns by making a collective pattern of the newspaper. The peplum still holds the normal shape of newspaper, making less of a transformation and more focus goes to the material. The next piece, the coffee filters, shows the fluted aspect of the material, however, with different folding and attachment, the identity of the material is hidden. The coffee filters cost $2.00. The materials for the napkin dress cost $10.00. This look focuses less on the materials than the previous and uses them for their texture rather than their actual purpose. The next look, the blue dress, focuses on the texture and pattern of the materials rather than the materials by hiding tissue paper within the plastic bags. These materials cost $5.00.

DIY Doodle Easter Eggs with Sharpies. I loved these black and white Easter Eggs done with a fine point Sharpie so much I asked Alisa Burke if I could post them (as per her website). Admittedly we aren’t all as talented as Alisa Burke, but she shows how she created these here.
